Get Involved in the Lived Experience Workforces

Being part of lived experience networks, communities of practice, memberships and training programs is an important way to engage with the Lived Experience Workforces. These opportunities provide valuable platforms for learning, sharing experiences and building skills.

WA Peer Supportersโ€™ Network (WAPSN)

WAPSN is a network for and by peer supporters in Western Australia. WAPSN brings news, professional learning and opportunities to connect with others. The network offers a bimonthly newsletter and regular meetings. Joining the network is free and open to peer supporters.

The Peer Workforce Championsโ€™ Community of Practice

Theย Community of Practice is a free collaborative professional learning network for people who are involved in developing the peer workforce within their organisation and/or sector. The Community of Practice meet every two months.

Consumers of Mental Health WA (CoMHWA)

CoMHWA is the independent, statewide peak body for people with lived and living experience of mental health issues (consumers). As a peer-led organisation, peer needs, interests and voices are central to CoMHWAโ€™s work. It also established and hosts the WA Peer Supportersโ€™ Network.

CoMHWA leads and offers:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work scholarships
  • Peer support employment pathways
  • WA Peer Champions Community of Practice
  • Peer supervision services
  • Education and training (including workshops, short courses, Life Launch Pad and ASPIRE programs)
  • Organisational readiness training for Lived Experience (Peer) workforce development

The Health Consumers' Council (HCC)

The Health Consumersโ€™ Council of WA (HCC) is an independent voice advocating for patients in WA. HCC provides training and support to enable meaningful involvement in health policy and planning.

Carers WA

Carers WA is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of family carers living in WA with access to services, support and resources. Carers WAโ€™s Carer Representation Program enables carers to use their lived experience to inform and influence policy, planning and decision-making in health and mental health services. The program offers ongoing training, support and connection.

The CARE Hub is an online platform created by and for people engaged in community mental health. It includes a jobs board, free training, discussion spaces, resource sharing and collaboration opportunities.

Mental Health Matters 2 Limited (MHM2)

A lived experience-led charity working with and for individuals and families impacted by mental health, alcohol and other drug challenges, and justice involvement. MHM2 advocates for sustainable Lived Experience workforces and offers training including:

  • (Re)orienting to Lived Experience (Peer) work
  • Applied Peer Supervision course
  • Peer Supervision (via LE supervisors)
  • Organisational readiness and mentoring
  • Co-design facilitation
    Training is available via existing courses or tailored to organisational needs.
